DictaFlow

Voice dictation for Slack

Slack rewards fast replies. DictaFlow lets you hold a key, speak a message, and see it appear in the Slack message box, ready for you to read and send.

Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android. Free plan: 2,000 cloud words per 30-day cycle. Pro: $9/month or $84/year.

How to set it up

  1. Click into the Slack composer. This can be a channel, DM or thread reply. DictaFlow types into whichever box has the cursor.
  2. Hold, speak, release. Say your message. Release the shortcut and the text is inserted.
  3. Check before pressing Enter. Slack sends on Enter, so read the text first. Edit any mis-heard names or @mentions.
  4. Train it on your team's vocabulary. Add teammate names, project codenames and acronyms to custom vocabulary so they stop getting mangled.

Tips

  • Keep dictated Slack messages to a few sentences; thread replies are ideal.
  • Type @mentions and channel links by hand, then dictate the rest of the sentence.
  • DictaFlow also has native iPhone, iPad and Android apps; mobile input works differently from desktop hotkeys.

What DictaFlow does not do

DictaFlow does not connect to your Slack workspace and cannot read channels or post for you. Because Enter sends in Slack, always review dictated text before sending.

How DictaFlow works

DictaFlow is hold-to-talk dictation: hold a shortcut, speak, release, and the text is inserted into the active app at your cursor. It includes custom vocabulary, correction while speaking, and a Typing Mode that enters text as keystrokes for Citrix, RDP and fields where pasting is blocked. Standard dictation uses cloud processing; Pro adds Local Offline dictation on supported devices. See the full product facts and privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions

Does DictaFlow work in the Slack desktop app and browser?

It inserts text into the active field on your computer, so it works in both when the cursor is in the message box.

Will it mis-type my coworkers' names?

It can, as any speech tool can. Adding names to custom vocabulary improves spelling, and you can always edit before sending.

Is there a free plan?

Yes: 2,000 cloud words per 30-day cycle. Pro is $9/month or $84/year.

Can I use it for long Slack posts?

Yes, but dictate in chunks and review each. Hold-to-talk keeps you in control of when it listens.
