Voice dictation for Gmail
Write and reply to Gmail faster by speaking. DictaFlow types your words into the Gmail compose box in your browser, so you can review and edit before sending.
Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android. Free plan: 2,000 cloud words per 30-day cycle. Pro: $9/month or $84/year.
How to set it up
- Open a compose window or reply. Click into the Gmail compose body, a reply box, or the subject line. DictaFlow inserts text wherever the cursor is.
- Hold your DictaFlow shortcut and speak. Hold the shortcut, say your message in normal sentences, and release. Speak in normal sentences.
- Review before sending. The text appears in the compose box as editable text. Read it, fix names or numbers, then press Send yourself. DictaFlow never sends an email for you.
- Add recurring names to the dictionary. Add colleague names, client names and product terms to your custom vocabulary so they come out spelled the way you write them.
Tips
- Dictate the whole reply in one go, then edit; it is usually faster than correcting sentence by sentence.
- Use the correction-while-speaking feature when you misspeak mid-sentence instead of stopping to retype.
- Short replies are the sweet spot: triage your inbox with a hold-and-talk on each message.
What DictaFlow does not do
DictaFlow is a text-input tool, not a Gmail add-on. It does not read your inbox, open messages or press Send. Voice commands for Gmail navigation are not part of the product.
How DictaFlow works
DictaFlow is hold-to-talk dictation: hold a shortcut, speak, release, and the text is inserted into the active app at your cursor. It includes custom vocabulary, correction while speaking, and a Typing Mode that enters text as keystrokes for Citrix, RDP and fields where pasting is blocked. Standard dictation uses cloud processing; Pro adds Local Offline dictation on supported devices. See the full product facts and privacy policy.
Frequently asked questions
Does DictaFlow work in Gmail?
Yes. DictaFlow types into the active text field on your computer, which includes the Gmail compose box in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. It is not a Gmail extension, so nothing is installed inside Gmail itself.
Can DictaFlow send the email for me?
No. It only inserts text at the cursor. You review the draft and press Send yourself.
Is there a free way to try it?
Yes. The Free plan includes 2,000 cloud-processed words per 30-day cycle. Pro is $9/month or $84/year.
How is this different from Google Docs voice typing?
Google Docs voice typing only works inside Google Docs in Chrome. DictaFlow works in any app where you can place a cursor, including Gmail, Slack and Word.
