Is this online dictation tool really free?
Yes. It runs in your browser using the built-in Web Speech API, needs no account or signup, and has no usage limit from DictaFlow.
Which browsers support it?
Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Safari (recent versions) support speech recognition. Firefox does not currently support the Web Speech API, so the tool will tell you if your browser cannot run it. Chrome and Edge give the most reliable results on desktop.
Is my voice private?
Your text stays on your device and DictaFlow never receives your audio from this page. However, in Chrome and Edge the browser itself sends audio to its vendor's speech service (Google or Microsoft) to transcribe it, so do not use it for confidential material. DictaFlow's apps are built for that use case; see our privacy page.
Why is the accuracy sometimes poor?
Browser speech recognition is a general-purpose engine with no AI cleanup, no custom vocabulary and no awareness of the app you are typing into. Background noise and microphone quality matter a lot. DictaFlow's desktop and mobile apps add AI formatting and cleanup on top of recognition.
What punctuation commands can I say?
Say period or full stop, comma, question mark, exclamation point, colon, semicolon, new line, new paragraph, open quote, close quote, open parenthesis and close parenthesis.
Can I download what I dictated?
Yes. Use Copy to put it on your clipboard or Download .txt to save a plain-text file. Your text is also saved in this browser's local storage so a refresh does not lose it; use Clear to remove it.
