Voice dictation for students
Speak your first draft, then edit. DictaFlow types what you say into Google Docs, Word, Notion or any other app, so you can get past the blank page faster.
Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android. Free plan: 2,000 cloud words per 30-day cycle. Pro: $9/month or $84/year.
How to set it up
- Open your document or notes app. Docs, Word, Notion, Canvas text boxes: anywhere you can place a cursor.
- Hold the shortcut and talk through your argument. Explain your point as you would to a friend, then release.
- Rewrite in your own words and structure. Dictated text is a draft. Edit for clarity, structure and citations.
- Add course vocabulary. Put terms, authors and formulas' names in custom vocabulary.
Tips
- Dictate outlines and rough paragraphs; do final edits by keyboard.
- Do not dictate quotes from memory; check and cite sources.
- Check your school's rules. Dictation types your own words, but your institution may have separate policies on AI tools.
What DictaFlow does not do
DictaFlow transcribes your speech; it does not research, write essays for you or cite sources. It works in live typing fields, not on lecture recordings.
How DictaFlow works
DictaFlow is hold-to-talk dictation: hold a shortcut, speak, release, and the text is inserted into the active app at your cursor. It includes custom vocabulary, correction while speaking, and a Typing Mode that enters text as keystrokes for Citrix, RDP and fields where pasting is blocked. Standard dictation uses cloud processing; Pro adds Local Offline dictation on supported devices. See the full product facts and privacy policy.
