Voice dictation for dyslexia
Speaking is often easier than spelling. DictaFlow turns what you say into typed text in email, documents and chat, so you can focus on ideas first and proofread second.
Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android. Free plan: 2,000 cloud words per 30-day cycle. Pro: $9/month or $84/year.
How to set it up
- Say it, don't spell it. Hold the shortcut, speak your sentence, release. The words appear spelled by the software.
- Review in small pieces. Read each paragraph after dictating. Pairing with your computer's read-aloud feature can help you catch errors by ear.
- Add tricky words to custom vocabulary. Names, subject terms and words you often mis-spell can be added so they are produced consistently.
- Use the keyboard only for small fixes. Most editing can be a word or two.
Tips
- Use dictation for first drafts, then edit slowly.
- Combine with text-to-speech to hear your writing back; both Windows and macOS have built-in read-aloud tools.
- Ask your school or workplace about assistive-technology accommodations.
What DictaFlow does not do
Speech recognition can mis-hear words, and the output still needs proofreading. DictaFlow is not a dyslexia treatment or an educational assessment tool.
How DictaFlow works
DictaFlow is hold-to-talk dictation: hold a shortcut, speak, release, and the text is inserted into the active app at your cursor. It includes custom vocabulary, correction while speaking, and a Typing Mode that enters text as keystrokes for Citrix, RDP and fields where pasting is blocked. Standard dictation uses cloud processing; Pro adds Local Offline dictation on supported devices. See the full product facts and privacy policy.
