DictaFlow

Voice dictation for Obsidian

Getting thoughts into your vault should not wait for the keyboard. DictaFlow types your speech straight into the Obsidian note you have open, so you can capture ideas first and add links and structure afterwards.

Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android. Free plan: 2,000 cloud words per 30-day cycle. Pro: $9/month or $84/year.

How to set it up

  1. Open a note and place the cursor. A daily note, a new note or the middle of an existing page all work. Text goes wherever the cursor is.
  2. Hold the shortcut and speak. Dictate a thought, meeting follow-up or rough draft, then release.
  3. Add Markdown and links by hand. Use the keyboard for [[links]], headings and tags, and dictation for the long text in between.
  4. Teach it your terms. Add project names, people and jargon to custom vocabulary so your notes stay consistent and searchable.

Tips

  • Dictate a rough capture into your daily note, then refactor it into permanent notes later.
  • Speak in full sentences; it reads better when you come back to the note months later.
  • The same hotkey works in your browser, email and chat apps, so capture habits carry over.

What DictaFlow does not do

DictaFlow is not an Obsidian plugin. It does not read your vault, create links, or transcribe audio files or recordings. It is live hold-to-talk dictation that types where you place the cursor.

How DictaFlow works

DictaFlow is hold-to-talk dictation: hold a shortcut, speak, release, and the text is inserted into the active app at your cursor. It includes custom vocabulary, correction while speaking, and a Typing Mode that enters text as keystrokes for Citrix, RDP and fields where pasting is blocked. Standard dictation uses cloud processing; Pro adds Local Offline dictation on supported devices. See the full product facts and privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions

Does DictaFlow need an Obsidian plugin?

No. It types into the active app on your computer, so it works in Obsidian's editor without installing anything inside Obsidian.

Does it work on mobile?

DictaFlow has native iPhone, iPad and Android apps. Mobile input works differently from the desktop hotkey, so test it with your own setup.

Can I keep notes private?

Standard dictation uses cloud processing. Pro includes Local Offline dictation on supported devices. See the privacy policy for current details.

How much is it?
