DictaFlow

Voice dictation for Cursor

Cursor works best with long, specific prompts. DictaFlow lets you hold a key, describe the change you want in plain speech, and see the prompt appear in Cursor's chat box as editable text before you send it.

Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android. Free plan: 2,000 cloud words per 30-day cycle. Pro: $9/month or $84/year.

How to set it up

  1. Click into Cursor's chat or Composer input. DictaFlow types into whichever field has focus, so the cursor position decides where the prompt lands.
  2. Hold your shortcut and describe the task. Explain the goal, the files involved, constraints and what done looks like. Release when you are finished.
  3. Edit, then send. The prompt is plain text. Add file references with Cursor's own @ syntax, trim it, then press Enter yourself.
  4. Add your codebase vocabulary. Put library names, function names, product names and acronyms in custom vocabulary so they come out spelled correctly.

Tips

  • Speak the context first, then the ask. A rambling first draft is fine because you edit before sending.
  • Type @file references and exact identifiers by hand, then dictate the explanation around them.
  • Use the same hotkey in ChatGPT, Claude, VS Code, terminals and GitHub, so the habit carries across tools.
  • If Cursor runs inside a remote or virtual desktop that blocks paste, switch to Typing Mode.

What DictaFlow does not do

DictaFlow is a text input layer, not a Cursor extension or voice-command system. It does not run Cursor commands, accept diffs, or navigate files for you, and it does not write code on its own. Dictated identifiers can be mis-heard, so review prompts before sending.

How DictaFlow works

DictaFlow is hold-to-talk dictation: hold a shortcut, speak, release, and the text is inserted into the active app at your cursor. It includes custom vocabulary, correction while speaking, and a Typing Mode that enters text as keystrokes for Citrix, RDP and fields where pasting is blocked. Standard dictation uses cloud processing; Pro adds Local Offline dictation on supported devices. See the full product facts and privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions

Does DictaFlow work in Cursor?

Yes. DictaFlow inserts text into the active field on your computer, which includes Cursor's chat, Composer and editor when the cursor is there. Nothing is installed inside Cursor itself.

Is this better than typing prompts?

For long prompts with a lot of context, speaking is usually faster than typing, and you still get editable text before anything is sent. Short exact edits are often quicker on the keyboard.

Can it control Cursor by voice?

No. DictaFlow does not provide editor voice commands. It types what you say where the cursor is.

What does it cost?

The Free plan includes 2,000 cloud words per 30-day cycle. Pro is $9/month or $84/year and includes Local Offline dictation on supported devices.
