Voice dictation for carpal tunnel and RSI
Repetitive strain injuries make every keystroke count. DictaFlow turns speech into typed text in any app, so most of your writing can be done without the keyboard.
Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android. Free plan: 2,000 cloud words per 30-day cycle. Pro: $9/month or $84/year.
How to set it up
- Set up a hands-free trigger. Map the DictaFlow hotkey to a foot pedal or a mouse side button if you want to keep your hands off the keyboard.
- Dictate the long stuff. Emails, documents, tickets and chat replies are the highest-volume typing. Do those by voice first.
- Keep keyboard edits short. Use arrow keys and quick fixes rather than retyping paragraphs.
- Build a vocabulary. Add names and terms to custom vocabulary so you are not hand-correcting the same words daily.
Tips
- Start by replacing your most typing-heavy task, not everything at once.
- Rest your voice as well: sip water, and dictate in short bursts.
- Follow your clinician's advice on breaks and ergonomics. DictaFlow is not medical advice.
What DictaFlow does not do
DictaFlow handles text, not mouse navigation or window control. If you need full hands-free computer control, look at an operating-system tool such as Windows Voice Access or macOS Voice Control alongside it.
How DictaFlow works
DictaFlow is hold-to-talk dictation: hold a shortcut, speak, release, and the text is inserted into the active app at your cursor. It includes custom vocabulary, correction while speaking, and a Typing Mode that enters text as keystrokes for Citrix, RDP and fields where pasting is blocked. Standard dictation uses cloud processing; Pro adds Local Offline dictation on supported devices. See the full product facts and privacy policy.
Frequently asked questions
Is voice dictation good for RSI?
Voice input is a common way to reduce typing load. DictaFlow is not a medical device; talk to your clinician about your treatment.
Can I control my whole computer by voice with DictaFlow?
No. DictaFlow types text. For navigation commands, pair it with Windows Voice Access or Mac Voice Control.
Can I avoid holding a key?
Hold-to-talk needs a held trigger. A foot pedal ($34 from DictaFlow) or mouse button can take the load off your fingers.
