Terafab vs. the typing gap: Why AI hardware won't fix your input problem
March 15, 2026
Elon Musk just confirmed that Tesla’s "Terafab"—a massive factory for AI chips—is launching in seven days. The goal is to mass-produce the custom AI5 silicon needed for the next generation of autonomous agents and humanoid robots.
It’s a big move. We’re building "brains" at a scale that was science fiction five years ago. But while the industry is obsessed with how fast these models think, we’re ignoring a much more embarrassing reality: how slow we are at talking to them.
The compute-input paradox
By 2027, your desktop will probably have more raw AI compute than the entire cloud did in 2020. You’ll have "agentic" workflows capable of handling complex legal discovery or medical coding in seconds.
The bottleneck isn’t the chip. It’s your keyboard.
If you’re a professional—a lawyer, a doctor, or an engineer—you’re likely still typing at 60 to 80 words per minute. Even if you use basic cloud dictation, you’re fighting the "edit tax": the cognitive drain of fixing "their/there" or waiting for a laggy VDI connection to catch up to your thoughts.
Terafab can produce a billion tokens of reasoning, but it can’t reason about what you intended to say if your input method is still stuck in the 1990s.
Why software needs native control
The reason professional dictation still feels broken in most environments (especially Citrix or RDP) is that it's treated as an afterthought. Most apps try to bridge the gap through the cloud, which adds latency and stops you from overriding the machine in real-time.
This is why we built DictaFlow.
We didn’t wait for a dedicated AI fab. We focused on the input layer. DictaFlow is a Windows-native engine designed for professionals who can’t afford to wait for a spinning wheel or a hallucinated correction.
- Citrix/VDI bypass: We handle the audio locally and inject the text at the driver level, so there’s no lag in remote desktops.
- Hold-to-talk (PTT): This is true professional control. Your mic is only active when your finger is on the button, which keeps ambient noise out of your notes.
- Actually override: You can correct yourself mid-sentence without the AI fighting your intent.
The Terafab era requires high-bandwidth humans
As Tesla scales Terafab to power a robotic workforce, the value of human intent will only increase. But that intent is only as valuable as the pipe it travels through.
If you’re still typing your notes or fighting "always-on" AI that guesses more than it listens, you’re living in the pre-fab era.
Stop being the bottleneck. Try DictaFlow for Windows and start feeding your AI at the speed of thought.
